Society of Women Engineers
Established in 1950, the Society of Women Engineers is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging women to reach their full potentials in engineering and leadership. Cognizant Making the Future Scholarship
Cognizant Making the Future Scholarship is designed for students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). To be eligible for this design-based scholarship program, candidates must submit documentation of a hands-on project that showcases creativity and innovation.
This scholarship program is available to undergraduate students pursuing degrees or careers in STEM fields. Eligible recipients must be full-time students at two or four year colleges/universities or vocational-technical schools and possess a grade point average of 2.5 or above as well as be in good academic standing.
The Making the Future Scholarship is part of Cognizant’s Making the Future education initiative, which encourages all to be “makers of things, not just consumers” as President Obama said at the National Academies of Science in 2009. American Business Women’s Association

Scholarships for women engineers are plentiful. Some are one-time awards, while others are multi-year grants that cover your tuition and other costs throughout the duration of your degree.

Queer Engineer Scholarship
The Queer Engineer Scholarship is a free scholarship that provides full tuition support to LGBTQ-identifying women pursuing engineering degrees. Named in honor of Peggy Bowker, the first licensed female civil engineer in Nevada and graduate of the University of Nevada-Reno, this award recognizes female students for their academic excellence and leadership capabilities.
The scholarship is available to entering freshmen, returning students and non-traditional students who demonstrate strong aptitude in science and math, are on track to graduate, carry at least 12 credit hours each semester and demonstrate financial need.
This scholarship program from the LGBT Resource Center is designed to assist self-identifying lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer students in pursuing a degree in engineering. To qualify, applicants must be in good standing with their institution, have two years postsecondary education with a declared STEM major, have achieved a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and actively support programs working toward increasing LGBTQ inclusivity and visibility.
The National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals offers several scholarships to LGBTQ undergraduate and graduate students. These include the Out to Innovate Scholarship and Kenneth W. Payne Student Prize, awarded annually by the Association for Queer Anthropology (AQA) to an anthropological work which examines either 1) a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender topic; or 2) critically interrogates sexualities and genders more generally defined.
Atkins Minorities and Women STEM Scholarship
The Atkins Minorities and Women STEM Scholarship is an initiative to encourage and support minority women in science, technology, engineering, and math. This scholarship offers a $4000 grant to female high school seniors and undergraduate students as they pursue their college goals.
Women remain underrepresented in STEM fields, so scholarships are an important way to combat gender biases that prevent more women from studying these esteemed disciplines.
